I don't know if others know this, but I just figured it out.

Turning off voice. go into the i menu, Display Settings, Language, uncheck voice in Navigation

Stopping Guidance. Go into New Destination, select the current route destination and then select begin guidance again and the check box comes off.

You can also toggle the voice on or off if you have the steering wheel button programmed to repeat last nav instruction. Just hold the button down and it'll mute/unmute.

Why didn't you post a question here, how to turn off voice and how to cancel current nav guiding ?
We could have given you those answers.

I tried the mute/un-mute while the nav voice was going and it kept talking and muted the radio. The volume control works for the nav voice but not the mute.

The last comments I read about this was it could not be done, so I figured it was already talked about as a known problem. Oh well, all better now.

It sounds like you're pressing the button that's programmed to mute the radio. This only works if the button you hold down is programmed to repeat the last nav instruction. (On software version 11 and before, the diamond button was hard-coded to this feature. It wasn't until 12.x that you could change this button on cars with nav.)

If you press and hold the button while looking at the map, a little speaker icon with a slash through it will show up on the screen...

Ahh. It is programmed to mute, not Navigation. That must be why it didn't work. I will have to try that.

Thumbs up

Another question about the Nav system:

Whenever I hear the guidance voice telling me to take a left, right or U-turn, the radio does not automatically mute.
I asked my dealer whether the option to mute was somewhere hidden in the I-Drive system but he didn't know.

I know that the radio of my previous car (E46 M3) did mute whenever that lovely lady raised her voice to give me some good advice.

Does anybody have any idea?

Version 13 seems to bring this "fix", allthough I like it when the music plays in the background and doesn't get mute!

Hi, with v13 the music plays in the background in a lower volume. Just like v.12!
