Hi

After having retrofitted the navi pro some months back, and getting over the first exitement about the fact that it actually worked I have started to get annoyed about how slow the system is. I started wondering if the part of the reason is due to me using a DVD back-up and not the factory disc.
Also, yesterday I was playing around with the Voice Control, and found that using voice input to select the destination did not work - after I got to the point where I should speak the country or street, the system responded "Function not available at the moment"....

Today I was in another e60 with navi pro, that was using the factory oem DVD - I tried the voice input (which the owner was not aware you could do ) and it worked perfect. Also, browsing through the list of street names etc was much faster - as well as calculating routes was also faster.

As it turned out, he had a spare oem DVD, but a 2004-2 version. I borrowed it, and inserted it into the DVD drive of my car. It then prompted me to shut down the system and wait 5 minutes. I did, and voila it worked. Now also voice input to select destination. BUT!! After approx 3-4 minutes the i-drive black out and reboots.

The back-up DVD I was using before was a 2009-1. And when I fitted the navi pro, the SW was upgraded to the latest version. Does this now make it incompatible with the 2004 rev disc?

I will try again with the back-up disc tomorrow to see if the reboot issue is related to the rev - but if you guys have any knowledge, please let me know.

I am thinking about buying the latest version of the disc at BMW - is there something about you get a discount if you hand in an older version?

Is this a full map:

In that case, it is pretty cheap.

Thanks in advance for any help.

/Thomas.

Ok - changed back to the backup 2009-1 DVD. No more resets, but back to slow performance....

I will buy a new disc. The link above is for a Business (I noticed after looking again) - so that's the reason it is so cheap.

I found this one:
http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-Navi-DVD-09-2-Road-Map-Europa-Professional-2009-2_W0QQitemZ140355360219QQcmdZViewItemQQptZTechnik_Auto_Hi_Fi_Navigation_Einbau_Navigationssysteme?hash=item20add4d5db
Looks like a fair price - but maybe I should wait for 2010-1 - does anybody know when that is available?

Thanks,

I know - that's the reason for why I started out with the back-up copy too bad it did not work....

Late reply - but better late, than never !

With the newest software you can't use the 2004 DVD, the system will restart after 2-5 min all the time. You will have to use a 2009-x or higher!

The addressinput with voicerec doesn't work in Denmark, but only on addresses in bigger countries, such as Germany, France etc. I'm using a 2009-1 disc (copy) with speed cameras on it, and I don't have any issues with slow speeds (not slower than OEM disc).

I do however have a new problem with my nav PRO now. After 1255 km yesterday from Austria -> CPH, I got the DVD read error message just south of Berlin (when I needed the Nav system at most). The 2009-1 disc was very hot (800 km's driven that day), and had some scratches on it. I burned a new 2010-1 disc yesterday and the Nav system started to work again, BUT the DVD read error appears on the screen after 15-20 min.

Have you ever had that problem, or do you have a OEM 2009 disc I can borrow to test my DVD laser reader?

Sorry for the even longer time before replying to this.

I ended up buying the 2010 DVD from Bruce - works like a charm. Only problem being the limited POI (doesn't have the simplest things you would expect). Voice inputs works fine in DK

You are welcome to try it if you want (as long as your drive does not scratch it ) PM me if you want to meet.

Hi Thomas!

My navigation works like a charm again.

It burned a 2010-1 disc at a high quality disc at LOW speed, and it works!! I also noticed that voice input works with 2010-1 !!

However it's the "small POI" database on this 2010-1 disc, so I'll find a 2009-1 with the large database incl speed cameras!

Ok, let me know if you find a good source for a better POI database - I am planning the summer vacation, and it does not seem like 2010-1 will be my companion :-)
