Very useful in Europe (TMC) You must have radio stations available to broadcasting traffic information data via RDS. Then it's displayed either in text mode or graphically on the nav map. When nav is set on you can been proposed with a detour. I know one the latest software versions have improvements to TMC, don't know which one.

Did you pay extra for TMC or is it part of Sat nav pro?

Nope, but the satellite radio channels are starting to. Hopefully they'll integrate soon with the BMW nav.

[/quote]I didn't pay any extra.
In France, that's free for all motorway (broadcasted by a special radio AUTOFM).
For Paris and big cities, some manufacturers have purchased a license. That's Renault, BMW, Volvo and some OEMs. Therefore that's free for BMW users (or let's say you pay it with your SatNav Pro option - don't know).
Data are collected by a special private company called v-trafic and broadcasted by France-Inter which is the most popular RDS radio here you can pick up everywhere. Data are encrypted so can be read by BMW terminals, but not Mercedes or Audi (no license).
I think that's moreless the same principle for most of the countries in Europe
It's working well except a small BMW software bug (loosing automatic TMC connection sometime - needs manual tune to recover). Expect to be fixed in next release.
Hope this helps.
