It can be retrofitted at a price. Would cost a lot more than the option price I would think. Save your money and get a TomTom or similar.

I would buy a Tom Tom or Similar.

1 A lot cheaper
2 Can use it in other vehicles or if you change your car you have not lost your investment
3 Speed camera detector built in
4 Keep it updated via the internet. Dont have to purchase costly upgrade discs.
5 Sits neatly next to the idrive screen so you dont have to have the windscreen mount bracket if you don't want to.

I have the BMW factory navigation in my E60 but in my wife's Audi ( <-- Soon to be replaced with a BMW 335i coupe ) we use a Garmin GPS and she is really happy with it! Works excellent

Yes, I used to borrow a Tom Tom 300 from work at this was a superb fit next to the idrive. I don't think you can get the 300 now so I purchased a 510 a couple of weeks ago.

Very pleased with it. Its accurate, clear and easy to use.

Hello
Interesting topic. I was considering the same as you're a couple of months ago, retrofitting the BMW nav. My dealer told me that I couldn't retrofit the business nav since I have PDC and Hi-Fi system and to upgrade to the pro nav costed about 7000$ including the work.
That's way to expensive so I bought a Garmin Nuvi 360 and I'm really really satisfied with it.
I hope it helps
cheers
