Can anyone identify this nasty grind on cold startup?

took the car back to the dealer I bought it from, and they cannot reproduce the noise, therefore they cannot give me a prognosis. Thought it may be the starter, but not sure at this point.

kinda hard to tell where the sound is coming from based on the video, but that doesnt sound like a starter grind.

does the sound come from the engine bay? have some record by engine while starting.

Sounds like the starter is slow to disengage, hanging up some, and the resultant engine speed is over running the starter sprag.

Thats exactly what I believe it is. Its just beyond me that these mechanics cant reproduce the problem / dont hear anything wrong after letting the car sit cold all night, while I reproduce the problem myself 2x a day, smh.

Park the car at the dealers in the evening just as they are closing and then get there early morning and ask for a mechanic to come out and listen....or try another dealer..

I failed to clarify... the dealer I took the car to for service is the used car dealership I bought the car from, not a BMW dealer... I'm taking my car to the BMW dealer sometime next week to get fully inspected.
