Default N62B48: Valve stem seals and cathalytic converter

Hello Gents,

Just got the waterpump done including the thermostat, belts and belt tensioners. Car has 170.000 KM and runs smooth an powerfull as a whistle. The engine and its sattelite components do not leakoil or any other fluid whatsoever so thats pretty good thank god...however....
The famous smoke puff now comes up after running idle for a couple of minutes. In normal traffic or waiting at traffic lights I don't see anything but after a good 2 minutes or so and then hitting the throttle I see a smallish puff in the mirror.
Oil consumption in general is about 1 liter every 2500 KM. Nothing to really worry about I'd say but..........
.....the cathalytic converter doesn't like oil but the question of course is how much is acceptable....I hoenstly don't know.

Personally I'd feel....ok lets get it over with and do the vavle stem seal replacement and while at it replace the alternator bracket seal as well as the famous valley pan coolsystem tube.
It'll cost me but after that I will be reasonably sure the engine won't let me down for another 60.000 km I reckon....

Please fire at will....interested in your comments....

That doesn't sound like a whole lot of oil to me - the cats are capable of clearing a reasonable amount of oil, so if was mine I'd just watch the O2 sensors on my Torque Pro app (or other BMW-specific app, etc.) to see if anything is changing from month to month. If not, I'd just not look in my rear view mirror when accelerating. ;-)

Yeah...you are probably right. I will monitor the actual cosumption a little closer in the next 10K km's. The last 2000 km's was all low speed, small road short holiday trips. These engines don't like that I guess.
