I have never heard of the n62 making it that far with no valve stem seal problems. That is a miracle engine.
I'm excited to see how the engine will treat me for the next 100k of spirited driving.

The v8 5 series (except m series bmws) I think is one of the best sedans you can buy with the amount of power it has. Very hard to find. As much of a pain these things are, and how expensive they are, there's a reason people love them so much!
I don't smell any coolant, and can't see any upper bay leaks. As long as ECT is in the acceptable range, the problem can sit on the back burner for a little while.
Thanks!

I had considered pulling the engine but that would put this (my daily driver) off the road for a couple days longer. Besides, I'm terrified of pulling it.
Maybe if I had some more time, I absolutely would.
Have you pulled the n62 before?

No, I would never want to pull this beast of an engine out! I only recommended it since the valve cover gasket/upper timing cover job is a good 10+ hours on the first try and the alternator bracket gasket can be just as long.
Also, I've used Mobil 5W-20 High Mileage Synthetic Oil and it swelled the valve stem seals and stopped the oil burning. Good if you do not want to attempt the valve stem seal job yet. Oddly enough, I used Castrol 5W-20 High Mileage Synthetic on the next oil change and the oil burning came back, so I'm going back to Mobil One.

Hi.
I considered gasket sweller but never pulled the trigger out of the fear that it'd wreak havoc on my coolant system over time. Can you confirm that it wont?
Yes, coolant is boiling. The reason I believe it is leaking due to that is that the boiling point is over 100C while the system is under pressure. When it's boiling, that tells me there is a leak in the system somewhere. Will do a CO2 test as well.
Any way the procedure will be different for a standard trans?
Thanks.

I can not follow your diagnostic regarding your boiling coolant. Just check the coolant temperature over the secret menu (it's a 5 minute job) and btw it's always a good thing to change out the inexpensive cooling water cover every 5 years or so. The pressure regulator is inside. Do you lose any coolant?
