Hello,
My 550i with 59k miles has an oil leaking on a left upper chain cover gasket. Is it possible to change only this gasket or better do it with valve cover gasket? I found that one forum member did it for 545i. https://5series.net/forums/diy-do-yo...3/#post1411860
Thank you!

The timing covers can be done separately . Get an inspection mirror and take a good look at the valve cover gaskets , if the are signs of leakage , might as well do the valve covers too .

Regarding the picture from the realoem for N62 engine, it's impossible to replace the upper timing cover gasket without removing the alternator bracket or valve cover or I'm wrong?

Alls I did was pull out the two alternator bolts , shift the alternator over . Used a 1/4 socket and extension , and had just enough space to get that bottom corner bolt out .

Guys thanks for your help.
I decided to do the both valve cover gasket and upper timing cover gasket. If i understood correctly that i don't need to relearn the valvetronic for the limit stops. Because I'll not change the mechanical position of any valvetronic assembly components. Am I right?

No you shouldnt have to but I thought the relearn process was only turning they key on and off twice keeping it in the on position for 30 secs both times. So if you want to be safe just do the process anyway.
Someone correct me if I am wrong
