N52 CCV/Oil Separator delete instructions needed

I have searched and have found nothing about deleting the CCV system and adding an oil catch can in it's place. I have my intake off to replace the starter and am doing a bunch of preventative work while its off. Would like to delete the CCV/Oil Separator since the vent hose and return hoses were brittle and are broken. I have removed the vent hose from the rear of the valve cover and have a good connector with a barb fitting that I can fit to a hose. I also have the return line removed and the connector there stripped down to the barb fitting.

My thought, after reading quite a few other posts on non-N52 engines is that I can come off the head with a hose into an oil catch can and then either vent it back to the intake or to the atmosphere through a filter. I will cap the barb fitting at the return line that is in place of the dipstick tube that this engine does not have and just dump the can at every oil change. Can I remove the oil separator and cap all the associated fittings on the intake if I take the OCC to the atmosphere?

What is the sensor at the connection where the oil separator dumps into the intake? Vacuum? Will capping that connection throw a code? Will it throw a code if the CCV hose heaters are left off? Any down side to doing any or all of this? Thanks.
