I finally figured it out the other day... sounds like a plastic piece is loose inside my roof. Very annoying!
My next question is --- should I get it fixed?

Your last question was answered by yourself allready... You say it's annoying, so it's no doubt about that you need to get it fixed.

My only worry is that something else will break.

I have a similar problem in my car. If the sun shade is open there's a rattling/buzzing sound coming from the area near the motion sensors in the middle of the roof. My car is going in for some service on Monday and I asked them to take a look at it. I'll let you know if they actually can do something about it.

Like you all I had this annoying rattle (or similar) from what I thought was the shade for the sunroof. The sound only occurred over rough pavement. If I pressed against the headliner it stopped. A while back I took it in and had the dealer fix it. They indicated they had fixed it by doing something with some clips up there but the noise was still there.
So this last weekend I did a little investigation and I think I solved it. For me it was not the sun shade at all but rather the motion sensor assembly rattling again the slotted trim piece in the head liner.
I removed the trim and separated the motion sensor. I then put a felt gasket between the two. The motion sensor has this hard rubber piece kind of the shape of a butterfly, where each wing is positioned to act like an ear (or funnel) for each of the sensors.
So far this week I have not noticed the rattle. It was defiantly more prominent when in the cold months.
Sorry no pictures, I can?t find my camera.
UPDATE: There are two different rattles... Above fixed one where sunroof is closed and shade is open. The other is the shade but only when the sunroof is open. Sorry all I thought I had it fixed.
