BMWNA US website's MY09 configurator is up. And, as anticipated, no new iDrive for E60s. Except for an exterior color choice, there appears to be no change whatsoever (except price.)
....I guess I begin my searching of dealer's lots for left over MY08 550s....

was the 555i meant for the F10's or for 09? I see nothing different on the bmwusa.com page.

My bet with a friend still on and I have a feeling I may loose (or maybe not if 550i still MY 2009).
I bet with him that 555i will be the last E60 MY (in 2010) cause BMW will have to battle with new A6 and E-class in that year.
But that bet was before gas hits $4.5/gallon for premium

This post was on Bimmerfest this morning:
I just spoke with an BMW NA rep 1-800-831-1117 and after the last month of not confirming that the new idrive and nav will be on the 2009 M5 and 5-series today they have confirmed that the new idrive and nav will be on the 2009.......
Jonathan, what do make of this? I've been reading your comments on BMWCCA and Bimmerfile trying to figure out what MY09 means for e60s in respect to iDrive. Perhaps the only thing conclusive is wait for a MY09 e60 to arrive here and take a look in person(?)

Actually there do appear to be some minor changes...the stock non sport wheels don't look like the 124's anymore. Similar looking, but appear different. Also you apparently do no have to get the Cold Weather pkg AND the NAV pkg in order to get rear seat heaters like you did on the '08. I thought that was just ridiculous and I'm glad they changed it. The Barbera Red is pretty on the configurator - can't wait to see one in person!

If you look closely at the console shots on the configurator, you can see that the idrive controller is new with the new hot buttons beside it. On the BMW National website, the downloadable brochure has updated interior shots that show 2 additional memory buttons which brings the total to 8 instead of the 6 they started putting in the 2008's. It also shows the new idrive controller.
There should also be the introduction of the "My Info" tab to the iDrive screen. This would give users the ability to use Google Maps and download destiantion info to your car from your computer. According to BMW NA, this feature was going to be added to all 2009 models starting with the X6.
If this truly is the case, I hope us 2008 owners can do a retrofit of the new controller knob/buttons along with hardware/software that will allow us to take advantage of the My Info feature as well as the new idrive version. This has to be the coolest new thing yet, other than the upcoming TT V8 engine!
I am a tech geek and these things get me excited.

HHD is really the way to go. No more DVD based nav (except to update), and no more iPod or USB device really needed. Pop everything onto the internal drive.
I'm afraid such an upgrade for older cars is only a pipe dream.
