My trunk pops up too "aggressively"

That is what needs to be replaced (about $100). Part number 51 24 7 141 490 "spring and shock absorber, right" I first adjusted my spring on the drivers' side and it only helped a little.

Other option is to super glue a fairly small manhole cover on bottom of truck lid. Helps in snow too.

Bringing up a pretty old thread, but I am suffering from the same issue and seems like replacing this shock is the only way. Can you please tell me where you would get it for $100? Cheapest I found is at http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/51247141490/ES92131/ and its over $145 including shipping.

Charan, find a breakers yard, you should be able to get it for like $50...
