My strange handbrake!

Hi All,
I posted a little while back asking how to adjust my handbrake (parking brake). I haven't got round to doing it yet, but I noticed by chance that if I put the car in neutral the handbrake only comes up a few clicks! If I then drive off and park as normal (straight into "P") it's back to going up 8-10 clicks.
Any idea what could be going on here!!?!
Cheers,
Andy

better to put it in neutral rather then park when u use handbrake. coz when u put it into park, the car is stoping using the Gear instad of the handbreak. whereas when u put it on neutral then handbreak, the car is stopping using the Handbreak instead of the Gear. this is why the hand break is stiffer when on neutral.
PS: Try to put P then handbrake. Then remove ur leg from the footbrake. then lower the handbreak and then put R or N or D. ull realize a Bump sound when u shift the gear from P to other. a repitition of this could Damage use Gears in the long run

I have a slightly different problem with my manual 530d (MY late 2003). I would be very happy if there`s somewhere an instruction how you can re-adjust your handbrake. Or do you have to have it done at the dealer ?
Because I have to pull mine ALL the way up for it to slightly work. And because my garage is tilted either 20-30 degrees forwards or backwars, it would be a great feeling to know that the E-brake works
Thanks a lot in advance

If you search my posts, you'll see some helpful soul posted instructions for adjusting the handbrake.
I'm still not convinced that there should be any difference in handbrake travel between Netural and Park positions. Surely it's still a cable moving a drum at the back, no?
Cheers,
Andy
