Is the rear diffuser just painted or have you got the OEM carbon fibre diffuser?

It has to be painted; the OEM CF rear diffuser was never made (AFAIK) with the removable trailer hitch "hatch" in the middle.
When I had the towbar fitted I took the oportunity to spray the diffuser. Spent ages in photoshop trying to decide what colour I should do it and eventually decided on BMW Diamond Black with the view that it looked good with the sun protection glass.
I bought the towbar version of the diffuser and removable panel from BMW and spayed it myself with a couple of cans from Halfords and then gave it to the guys when he fitted the towbar. Its amazing the results you can get with a bit of patience, good prep and polishing. Total outlay 15 quid, so a bit more of a bargain than the real thing...... if they made it to fit towbars.
Makes it a bit different from others, without deviating far from the stock look.
I have added another pic of dubious quality for reference.

I think that it looks great! Very well done DIY mod.
And you would have a very hard time noticing the difference between yours and mine... Especially as my E61 is always dirty!

Whaaat?? Automatic? First person I've seen not from The States with an auto. I have an auto too and I hate it when people ask me if my car's stick and when I say no, they seem disappointed. Maybe because they don't have a 5er.

Dont forget that 95% all cars over here are sticks and its what all kids learn to drive with so a stick shifter is no big deal. I'll concede that they are more fun than the conventional auto but the SMG and sport auto with paddles puts the smile back on, plus the performance difference is zero on my 530d. Of course for a daily driver clutch pumping in traffic is a pain so you can just slot it into D and relax.
Besides if I want a bit of fun I can always sneak out with the wife's 1 series.
BTW the nice PR gentleman from Mercedes lent me a C63 AMG, its psycopath on wheels!!! I took it from London, down to Cornwall (SW part of UK) where the roads are only 1 foot wider than the car and decided that 90mph is fast enough. I had visions of ground - sky - ground - sky so calmed down. Get it on a motorway and its awesome and blows away the M3 and M5. Not so good on the twistys but sounds fantastic...bwaaaaaaahh, bwaaaaaaahh, crackle, pop pop, bwaaaaaaahh, bwaaaaaaahh. Oh yes, due to the strange heaviness of my right boot it averaged 12 mpg over 500 miles!!!
