My Ride: 2006 BMW 530Xi black, tan leather, auto, nav, comfort seats, sat radio, PDC, cold pkg.

Hi guys,
I have been on this forum for awhile since I ordered my car. My dealer just called me and told me that it's in. A beautifull 530Xi black with tan, auto, nav, sat radio, comfort seats, etc. I went to see my baby and started the car. The car was not prepped yet. I hear a slight valve ticking. Sounds like one valve. The manager said not to worry, the car needs to be prepped and it will be fine. I had many new cars before but never heard a ticking valve on a new engine before. Should I worry? :'(
I'll post some pictures after I p'up my car next Friday

Valve ticking on a I6? I thought only the V8s had that problem. Keep us updated... listen to it when you pick it up.

Welcome, and congrats on your car. I would be concerned about ticking on a new car. I get it to the dealer soon.

When a car has sat for a long time without starting (like yours did on the trip from the motherland), the oil has an opportunity to drain well, and it's not uncommon for a lifter, for example, to be noisy until the car has been driven for a short while and the oil has had a chance to thoroughly recirculate.

Hopefully that's the issue, but when you go back to take delivery, you might want to take it for a short drive before you sign the paperwork. If it's still noisy, I'd tell them I want it fixed before buying it--or replaced if they can't easily rectify the situation.

The Porsche boxer engine, for example--by virtue of its flat 6 design--is notorious for this. In the past if I hadn't driven one of my Carreras for several weeks, it would sound like a sewing machine for the first 15 minutes of driving. :'(

Very well put (put i didnt say that ) , and nomally you need to drive for roughtly 50miles for this to happen, although i had not heard of ticking on 6 cylinder bmw engines

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your replies. I'm going to ask the service manager to check the noise out before I p'up the car. If it's still there, I will not take the car untill it's fixed. I'll let you know on Friday.

My car also sounded like a diesel and know after break in it is like a "lexus" except when I floor it, and it is a real diesel
