I've done 500 miles in my first week of ownership of my new E60. So far I am very impressed. With the car, and with the performance of the diesel engine.

I NEVER thought I'd say that. I am definitely a petrolhead, and to think that I'd one day consider even having a diesel car was unthinkable not so long ago. Let alone be excited by such a car/engine.

OK, it's not a match for a good V8 petrol engine for pure petrolhead enjoyment. But it is damn close.

500 miles on ONE TANK of fuel, and I still have 100 miles range. So that's about 600 miles from one tank. Beat that, you guys with a 545i.

But European fuel prices means it costs about $100 for a tankfull of diesel. So even a 545i, when run on US priced gas, is still cheaper to run.

I can't wait until I've done about 1500 miles, so I can see what full throttle and rev range is like. No wonder you need kleenex with a 535d

You're absolutly right. A diesel gives great driving pleasure, especially on the highway, it's nice that you can push and big fuel engines have to move over till you reach 200km per hour.

The torque is so great on the diesels.

This i very interesting, as big BMW diesels would be the permanent dream of many americans if only they would get to drive one some time. The problem is fueling in US, I guess and many others.

For a change, when you'll rent next time a bimmer in Europe, try to rent a 530d.

Gee Alohalc, if I remember correctly from another of your posts, when you talked about the number of miles you've driven, you would have only had to fill up your tank about three times since you purchased your car!

Just rev it for a while, the engine can handle it no problem and it will make it run better. It's partly run in anyway.
Just MIND THE BRAKES. They warp very quickly when new. You really need to go easy on them for the first weeks.
