my car said it was in M3 mode instead of DS mode

My Ride: 2004 545i sports pkg, premium pkg,HUD,NAV,comfort seats, power rear shade, premium sound
Today I had some tires put on my car and when I was pulling out of the shop on to the main road I put the car in sport mode or "DS" and the car took off just like I expected, but the problem is instead of "DS" the car said "M3" in the gear display. What is that about?

You hit the manual gear mode. In DS you can manually shift up and down.
Try it..its fun. While in DS press the lever up or down

Ya you must have pushed up or pulled the lever down accidently after putting it over to DS (left)

Ahahaha...Racing an M3 on 3rd gear, that's pretty reasonable, but racing a M5 and M6 on 5th and 6th gear?? lol. Maybe if you're already in a 200mph+ range. That's a good one though. I said that to my girlfriend once, but not chance of fooling her.
