This is something I was considering but I am not really ready. It looks good :

I'm a new 5 owner, I've had 3 series all my life - at least since I could drive- and I still have my 96 M3. I love the 5 the most though.
Now back to the door dingers - This one is my pet peeve: I too park as far away from everyone else as I can; I've now got my wife looking for good safe spots, it took 10 years but she's in on the game now.
May I say revenge is best when using the legal system. Dinging or "keying" cars in revenge is as low as it gets in life and I know my fellow BMW owners are not that type or you wouldn't own a BMW - you may be one of those "bmw" drivers, like me, but you wouldn't stoop to that level, right?
This said; you did the right thing taking a photo and reporting it to your insurance company. I once had a guy key my car because I cut him off. Yes, I was in the wrong for cutting him off but keying my car? "Be a man and come kick my butt - if you think you can - but cowardly keying my car is a puss action".
As you can imagine when I saw him key my car I wanted to tackle this guy right there in the parking lot and beat the life out of him. Instead I hid behind my car, took a picture of his car before he drove off, then followed him to his home and wrote down his address. I then went back to the parking lot and called the police. They arrested him later that evening at his home in front of his wife and kids. He went to trial for a felony and was convicted. His career, his family and personal life are now changed forever. He can't vote, own a gun, etc. Now that is revenge.
BTW: I love this forum.

Agree. I had no idea it was a felony either, the $$ is what makes it a felony. The repair was over 750 USD. Anything over 500 is a felony, at least it was then. To be fair I had no idea he had a wife kids, assumed it since he had a big house. The cops told me when they arrested him that his wife was yelling at him "what did you do". Oh well...shouldn't have key'd the car to begin with. If I did bust his nose he could have turned right around and sued me. Now that what have really sucked, a key'd car and a lawsuit against me. I probably wouldn't have stopped at a busted nose.

Here in the UK all car park spaces are made for mini's, hence I alway park miles from the supermarket entrance or leave two car gaps. However that still doesn't stop someone parking next to you. I have been the only one in a car park for 100 cars, when I came back someone had parked next to me :-)

Parking at the farthest spot is the best insurance against dings. I don't care if I have to walk 100 yds or 1,000 yds. It's good exercise, anyway. This attitude changes once the wife inherits the car and then it becomes a "mommy's car" and at that point I don't care any more. Surprisingly, she's only managed one ding in the year and a half she's been driving the E46. I'm impressed.
NOPE it is not an insurrance against dents!!!!
Today for the first time I take my car to Costco...I parked at the end of the parking lot
when i come back 3 dents on my door WTH!!!!!!
Feel like shooting myself!!!!
I have a jeep for over 2 years, took it offroad and I do not have one dent. I have my 550i for one month, took it once to public parking and i have 3 dentssob sob
I always park my car far away in parking lots. Even in this cold weather I am parking my car far far away.
But a Q I have. If there is no room and the situation is bad would you double park.....? I would

You gotta park as far away from others as you can, at the far end of the mall parking. The extra 1-2 mins walk will save your paint and be less hastle.
Owning an SUV is like owning nuclear weapons - once one person has one, everyone has to have one to avoid being wiped out by the bigger guy.....
I don't have one...!
