Hi,
I just had my windshield replaced 1.5 weeks ago for this exact problem. Apparently this is very common. Apparently, when the robot puts the glass is sometimes has a tendency to bounce and thus causing the windshield not to seat properly. They have replaced several for this exact crack. (Stress) As long as they do not see a stone mark it will be covered.
According to the paperwork it would have cost $430.00. My dealer requires the car to remain for 24 hours as they put a strap with suction cups to both the front and back windows to ensure the windshield seats properly. Applying pressure overnight.

Went to the dealer this afternoon, he told me exactly the same thing. A stress fracture, fully covered, will replace under warranty, no problem. Now, do i dare upgrade my software at the same time if it's working fine? Will take in Mar. 21, first day i can get a loaner.

My Ride: 2005 525 Silver Gray/Black, Step, Premium, Cold, Xeon, 18" wheels
Mine happened while the car was at the dealer working on my oxygen sensor. There was no way they could say it was my fault and they admited they have seen other 5s do it to. They replaced it under warranty.
