I'm a lawyer and I deal with insurance companies almost every day. The level of compassion you get depends on the adjuster assigned to your case. The bottom line result you get can vary widely depending on the insurance company. I've seen Eire, Gieco and USAA take good care of claimants.
With regards to getting a lawyer, I would say unless the insurance copmany is acting in bad faith in the way it handles your claim, you would probably be better off on your own. In your case all a lawyer could do would be to make the same phone calls (at $200.00 per hour) that you could make for free. Just be persistent and try not to get frustated. Be a pain in the a$$, but be civil about it. The results will probably be about the same as with a lawyer. Good luck.

- been through similar experience, but not a truck, just a car that rear ended me. Main thing is that you are OK.In SA we have to take the cars to Approved BMW repair agents - it is amazing what these guys can do. I had very good service and most of the work was excellent.
However, one bit of advice I can give you, is to really check the paintwork consistency under several different light sources and angles.

Hi and WOW. When I saw the pictures, instant cringe. It looks like the only thing not bent was the ignition key. With a thump like that from behind, I hope u had the head-rest adjusted correctly. And I take it you are still feeling physically OK.
I was just cruising around the forum and saw the pictures. I think the last post (no pun intended if it is for the car) was around November and was just curious to find out how it is turning out. Replacement or repair. Looks a mighty lot of damage to repair. I would think the cost of repair would need to be looked at against it's used value and not the sticker price as new on the forecourt. This will probably determine if it is beyond economical repair.

Glad to read that you're OK! Being hit from behind is very dangerous. I'm not a doctor, but I really think that it's important that you have a specialist look for potential neck injuries. I know of accidents at low speed which (many years later) have had consequences for the person being hit from behind.
