so, when i was sitting at idle with all windows closed and radio off, i hear this faint sound like coffee being brewed in an auomatic coffeemaker! i started to look around the cabin to see if there is something in a door pocket or something rattling, but not the case. i rev it a little and it stops, but starts again at idle. then, i push the clutch in, and it stops.. any ideas?? not to concerned but just curious if others have had this. it is quite faint, but once you hear it, it is constant and annoying!
-Cheers!

Funny.

I have a similar sound, and I think it's a loose undercarriage panel.

I haven't had time to check yet.

Best bet is to open the hood and have someone push in the clutch for you so you can try to localize it.

not yet, but with the avalanche of issues i've been having with my e36 the last month, it would be perfect timing for an e60 catastrophe!!

Though possibly annoying, it sounds like it might just be normal vehicle function... many manual transmission cars I've owned have made similar sounds to one extent or another.
