My Ride: Currently in a 2003 e46 M3 Cab Waiting to get a 535d Sport with individual and all the extras...
Default

So as I currently do over 3000 miles a month in my 535 I thought I could give some of the newer owners a field report from the future.

First fact - Car is the best car I have ever owned. It may not be the fastest, certainly not the sexiest to look at (but still damn fine ! ) but all factors contribute towards me being more happy with this car then any other I have owned - which includes an e39 540, 523 an e46 M3 Cab, 2 x Lotus elises and various other things....

Run flat - whats the issue ? Mines been on the stock sport 18" rims with Goodyear Runflats and I have 0 complaints about the ride, maybe because I am used to the m3 on 19"s but maybe because of the...

Comfort Seats - the best optional extra for a bmw bar none. I used to get back pain and leg pain driving my 200 mile trip home - now I suffer none of this, and the headrests really help those long journeys.

Individual leather is wearing well, no signs of scuffing or dirty black patches, but in 3 months it is too early to give a decent judgement. Piano Gloss trim is easy to maintain.

Got one nasty dent in the bonnet, loks like a stone chip, and a couple of surface scratches which will all get buffed up at my first service. One piece of Shadowgloss exterior trim is coming away a little at one end - thats a warranty job at service.

Have been backed into by an old granny. Reversed her peaugot 305 into me, car felt as If i had stalled it, went to survey damage, NOT A SCRATCH. I had to check it like 20 times but not even a remote bit of damage from this geriatric deathtrap driver.

Anti Trap error keeps happening, will get em to look at it at service also.

Engine is a peach. You have to get to know it's quirks (2 turbos doesn't eliminate all lag but you can with good prediction skill) and I am getting an average of 33.2 MPG according to the OBC. Tank seems to last about 520 - 530 miles. I do mainly motorway / a road driving, and at high ish speeds typically.

Logic 7 is great, definately the best stock system BMW have had uptil now.

I 100% love I Drive - so simple to use, so intuitive, so quick.

Want MP3. Love Sat Nav -> Heads Up Display, very good for long mileage

Overall, I am still very much in love with the car

Great to hear that! interesting report...and good job although i have a different opinion about the sexiest car...mine is the sexiest car without a doubt...i'm so in love...with those angel eyes and eyebrows and....and...well the car is perfect in every aspect! the lines, the surfaces, the contrasts, the proportions everything is perfect! Only an m3 cabrio would keep up in the sexy loundge but not reach my heart as this e60 managed. Maybe it's the M pack that made me fall in love faster...
Regards

Glad to hear someone say something postitive about runflats. Anyone who has had to change an 18 inch flat tire knows that there are some serious upsides to runflats.

Olly

Great report and even better to hear you're enjoying the car - I picked up my 535 yesterday and can't believe how smooth it is - have to disagree a little with you - I think the car looks so good......although the standard 18" could have been a little wider at the back.

I have to use it for the next 3 years and am looking forward to getting the first 1000 miles under my belt before I open the engine up.

Hey! what's the max rev u hit in ur car! I hit 3500 rpm! Although i am afraid it was too much and 140 km/h! Speed wasn't my primary concern! I fear of high revs because i really don't want to regret later!

When I ran mine in, still only done 4,000 miles, I took it to around 3,500 maybe 4,000 on the odd occassion. It runs absolutely fine like sh*t off a shovel. My friend who drives a 523i thinks its unbelievable.
