It's not necessary to put the phone in the cradle to work in the car sound system.
You can use it in your pocket or in the car (glove compartment, briefcase,...).
In the cradle it can be charged and won't fall once the cradle is the right one for that model.
You can enter in the car talking in the phone and pass the call to the car system by pressing the little loudspeaker button in the cradle. The car will assume the sound.
Very easy to use and very good sound quality.

How are you liking your 530d Manual?
I have been contemplating puchasing a manual but have been warned that automatic is the way to go with the E60 diesels.
Would be interested to know what your impression is so far?
