Hey guys,

I just got my car this week and was surprised as it didn't play mp3's? I spent the last 2 days reading and searching and finally took it to the dealer. They told me that there was nothing they can do but it seemed like they did not know what to do. My car does not have the Navi and I am located in Canada.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

1st of all, to the "club"

Now, as for your mp3 situation, from what I know, all you do is go to the dealer and tell them to enable the mp3 feature. Is the car under warranty? There - I believe - is a service bulletin re mp3 playback (and you can also have them turn off your DRL while you're at it). GL

Thanks for the quick reply. They said they are only able to retrofit mp3 if it had the Navi? I' am really confused.

The car has the 160,000/6 year warranty. Please elaborate on your insight. Thanks.

This might be true - I have a navi, so in my case, I'm only a trip to the dealer away from mp3. We'd have to wait for someone else to confirm that this only works with a Navi thought. Sorry

That doesn't help as much with US/Canada cars, because options and packages are different, but thanks all the same

I have a 2006 530i without NAV and it plays MP3 files just fine.

The drive is fussy about the media and burning method. I've used HP CD's with success. I burn the MP3 discs using Windows Media player on a medium speed setting. You just might have to play around with the settings or try different brands of media to see what works.

I presume that you've read this thread?

My 2007 has no Nav and I can play MP3 files. There is a Service Bulletin about MP3 playback:
https://5series.net/forums/index.php?act=at...st&id=81605

If you plan to install an iPod adapter that allows you to control iPod via iDrive, and you don't currently have a working CD changer installed,
you might want to consider getting the adapter installed first and then have the dealer enable MP3 and code it to recognize iPod adapter.
In my case it cost $130, and in the process I got the latest non-LCI iDrive software It took the dealer about 7 hours to reprogram my car.
