My 2004 545i, 107K miles, broke down this past weekend. I was driving and initially received a over-temp warning telling me to "drive moderately". A few minutes later the warning changed to "stop the car - over-temp". I called WG BMW since I was in their neighborhood. They told me to have it towed, do not drive the car.

Awaiting to hear from them. I usually think thermostat, water pump, coolant bad. Does anyone have any clues as to the problem?

Thanks.

at this mileage... have the thermostat, water pump and radiator been replaced before? V8 engine tend to EATs these parts. My previous 02 540i have all these parts replaced around 80K miles...

Jesus that is a lot of f'n money!!!!!

For an electric fan? What else does it do, cure cancer?

Thank god you did the right thing and called BMW and did not drive the car. That bill could have been times 10 if you screwed up the motor.
