Hi All,

I'm sorry I need to post this ... however ... after reading 100's of threads on whether I can get MP3's to play, I'm none the wiser.

I've tried playing MP3's, but they do not work and my car is in for a service next week and I would like to know before hand if MP3's can with a CIP's upgrade. I'm sure the dealer will tell me that it's not possible!!

I have:-
- professional Sat Nav
- 6 cd changer
- car registered in August 2005 in the UK
- voice activation
- no idea of my current CIP's level

If I should be able to play MP3's can you please point me to the correct BMW bulletin, so that I can show it to my dealer.

Many thanks

One would think that if you read "100's of threads" you would have read this:

SI B65 30 05
Sound System, Cruise, Alarms, Monitors March 2006
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B65 30 05 dated January 2006.

designates changes to this revision

SUBJECT
CCC: MP3 CD Playback Not Available

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation from SOP to 9/29/05 vehicle production

E63, E64 (6 Series) from SOP to 9/29/05 vehicle production

E90, E91 (3 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation vehicles produced up to 9/29/05

SITUATION
The MP3 option is not available in the audio menu. When an MP3 CD is used, it is not recognized as a valid CD.

CAUSE
The stability of earlier CCC (Car Communication Computer) software did not allow for proper MP3 functionality.

PROCEDURE

On a customer complaint basis only, retrofit MP3 functionality using Progman V20.00 or higher.

Refer to the SI B09 05 01 Coding, Individualization, Programming (CIP), for the "Retrofit" procedure.

Select "MP3" from the retrofit list and follow the on screen instructions for retrofitting MP3 capability.

The service code "KMP3" will be added to the end of the vehicle order as displayed in the Measures Plan.

After the procedure is complete, turn the ignition off and wait 5 minutes or until the driver's switch block LED goes out. Check the functionality of the system.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Note: Should the vehicle be affected at the same time by another repair in which programming of control units is also required, programming may be claimed only once.

Note: The following explanations will spell out the correct use of the work times.

Main Work:
Use this labor operation number when the only repair performed is the listed warranty repair.

OR

+Associated Work:
Use this labor operation number when other repairs or services are performed along with the listed warranty repair.
Under no circumstances should both labor operation numbers be claimed. Attempts to claim both times will result in an unnecessary delay in claim processing and payment.

I am sure it was posted as a PDF as well

If I read correctly we will "never" be able to play MP3s on the changer of e60s manufactured to date. MP3s play just fine in later e60'sstandard CD slot (and DVD Nav slot).

I think that is correct, but if they add the MP3 fix to the car it works just fine with the instructions that are listed in this forum, as I have had the MP3 fix done on mine.

A CIP upgrade on its own will not allow for MP3 playback, you must ask for this feature to be specifically enabled.

That is correct, because when they did mine to fix something else, I ask for the MP3 to be enabled, but when I returned with an MP3 CD it did not work, they did more research and it is a seperate feature that they have to enable above the standard CIP upgrade.

It's usual that they do that but be ready to leave your car there over night as CIP programming can take awhile. When I took mine in they kept my car for 1 1/2 days. and they gave me a Lincoln town car as a rental which is no comparison to driving a 545.
