As well as finding out about Bluetooth (see earlier post), BMW are working a software (?) fix on none of the CD players being able to play MP3.

Its great to hear that. but i'm just curious if this mp3 issue involves any hardware. Is it just a software problem?..anyone understand this?

I took delivery of my new 530 two weeks ago and raised exactly this issue with my dealer together with the missing extended voice control from the Professional Nav I ordered.

The sales guy (very helpful) raised this with a product manager for BMW UK and the official answer back was that there is a planned software fix (BMW service pack 1, anyone?) in or around September and both of these problems should be addressed then and I should have it fixed for free.

Cheers

Phil..

Logic suggests that the CD/DVD drive in the middle console will be able to read any data-encoded disks including MP3 because it can already read data files off the navigation DVD that comes with the sat-nav pack. The issue is therefore software not hardware.

Having said that, I have no idea whether the optional 6 disk CD changer will support data disks. If I was a betting man, I would wager "no".

My dealer told me that MP3 playback will not be supported by the CD changer. As I read in another thread, the CD changer does not support CD-Text, while the in-dash CD player does, so I guess that the CD changer won't support MP3 either.
