I had taken my car in to fix some minor glitches and put my summer tires back on. The glitches needed a software upgrade, and I had asked and pleaded with them to perform the additional steps for MP3, but they refused claiming liability reasons. I mentioned that other's have been successful on pre-March '05 builds , but they still weren't willing to do it.

The dealer in question is BMW of Orland Park. Anybody know of other dealers in the Chicagoland area who will be willing to perform the update?

Did you show them the TSB?

I think the TSB only applies to post-March 05 cars, which his car is not. You should call around the Chicago area dealers. Try Motorwerks, Patricks or Fields.

I think they're afraid that the might fry the TCU. Who would be blamed then? So, to them, it's safe than sorry.

Yeah! This is the exact response I got from the SA when I tried pushing them to do it. So far I have had no complains from the dealer or SA. They have been very professional about taking care of me. And I can't really complain about not willing to activate MP3. I had hoped they would.

I could suggest that I will be willing to pay if anything happens (what does a fried TCU replacement cost anyway?? ), but I not ready to do that yet. Beginning to lean towards a CD Changer.
