If you look at previous messages, you can see that MP3 capability has been already confirmed on Pro-Nav equipped E60-E61 cars, apparently for any car with a CCC unit new enough to accept the new firmware. So, there is a contradiction: on the e90.post forum they say that it works only for cars built between March and September 05 (after September, it's standard, I assume). But our collegue fpinto from Portugal has a 2004 built car and he's been able to upgrade it to play MP3 files. So, can anybody tell us if there is hardware limitation for the upgrade?

Also, as far as I knoe, there has been no confirmation of an e60 US production - pre Sept production with Nav that has mp3

I assume that this technical bulletin works for US cars also

Fellows,

I?m not totally sure about what has been done on my car to make it able to playback MP3 discs, Tomorrow, I?ll find out. I?ll pay a visit to my dealer and will ask him what he really did and will post it.
I think the only thing done was to upgrade the s/w to version 20.00.00 and, of course, to program it correctly to match what are the features available in the car. I also understand that a wrong parameterization will lead to some features not working correctly. It could explain why some cars are able to playback MP3 CD?s and others with exactly the same configuration don?t.

My car was at the dealers last Wed & Thurs for some minor faults e.g. new window motor, new bluetooth module and a few other things and a CIP upgrade. Well they never had the parts and had to get them from Germany so it's going in again this Thurs. When i get it back i will try to play an mp3 disk and will post what the outcome is. My car a July 05 build.

If you read the techniocal bulletin it says you must ask for the mp3 playback to be added

Accoring to the bulletin - the July 05 - will get it
but the car produced in 04 still out of luck

Well,

to-date we can only be sure that MP3 capability is now standard for any car built after Spetember 05.
The same capability can be added to cars manufactured between March and September 05, after an upgrade of the software to CIP 20 version and ONLY if the owner specifically requests it (in other words, CIP 20 software is necessary but not enough to get it).

So far, only fpinto seems to be able to play MP3 on a car built in year 2004; if he can inform us what modification (if any) has been carried on his car, that would greatly help all of us poor men with 2003, 2004 or early 2005 built cars.

Of course, all the above applies only to PRO-NAV equipped cars.
