I just played an MP3 CD on my brand new MY 2006 530i without a navigation system. It worked like a dream.

I created an MP3 CD with 11 albums, each in its own folder and inserted it into the in-dash CD player. I selected CD as my entertainment source, MP3 is displayed as the first CD choice (in addition to the 6 CDs in the Changer). I selected MP3 and the system read the CD and listed all 11 folder names (artist-album). The first song in the first album began playing. When I select a folder/album, the system reads the contents and lists all the filenames (song titles). It works like it should.

I don't know my software version, but my car was born on April 6, 2005. In reading the Owner's Manual, it appears that my car came with the Professional rather than Business Radio.

Good news for some, hope for others.

Please, What kind of media(CD-R, CD-RW) did you use? What format and quality of MP3 files?

Thanks.

Congrats Magneto, we're one step closer to figuring this thing out. I think you may be the first non-Sirius 2006 owner without nav who has confirmed MP3 playback.
