I had my August 03 build 530d in for service this week. I had asked for software to be upgraded to allow MP3 playback. Initial reaction after consulting with file was that it was not compatable with cars built pre sept 04 on bus nav/ prof radio. I asked them to send PUMA to BMW GB in Bracknell to see if this was correct, response said try s/w upgrade and see but unlikely to work. anyway software was upgrade to v19.x and on collecting car dealer said "no mp3" Tonight I burnt a mp3 cd with about 65 files and tried it. CD menu initially showed CD, CD1.....thro CD6 as usual with CD ( the in dash drive) shaded outas usual. Anyway clicked on the shaded out "CD" and disc spun and "CD" changed to "MP3" with all my tracks list below..... works just fine!!!

congrats!!

I have 06 525i.

i live in canada and the vehicle was built in july i believe.

I burned an mp3 CD and tried on my car today.

what i did was i made about 4 folders and put rest of mp3 files on just out of folder.

did i do something wrong? it wouldn't play the mp3!

i've never burnt any mp3 cd's before so i'm curious if there's any trick to burn one.

would you kindly explain how you have burnt yours?

Thank you very much.

oh mine's not NAV. but single din pro audio....i think??

In my experiance you dont need to worry to much about the way you set up your files, I just list tracjk after track and follow the instructions on whatever I'm using to burn to CD..straight forward, Ive managed 158 tracks on a disk in this way. I understand the benifits of folders but havnt bothered yet.

The key is having Pro radio, then it will play MP3 on your single slot CD..loads of threads on this forum..beware the iceman. Pics show what the multi station view on the Pro radio looks like , it might help to confirm if thats what you have.

I just burnt about 63 tracks straight onto a CD-R disc using Nero software. I converted tracks from i-tunes m4a files to mp3 first using an mp3 encoder.

I have not tried putting files in folders yet..... that is the next job as currently all the tracks are list in numerical order so different albums are all mixed up. The 63 tracks tack up about one third of the disc so room for plenty more.

Good luck

Escuse my ignornace,

Are you saying that you can play MP-3 on the standard audio cd that comes in the car?
without DVD nor logic-7?

Forgive me if i am lost on this thread.

TIA

Prior to September 05 builds, Canadian cars came with the business radio and not pro. You will not be able to play mp3s on your car unless you repalce the in dash cd unit. Cheaper to get an AUX In and use an external source such as an ipod.
