I only hope they would add AAC support as well....

Heh heh heh, that'll be just after they add .ogg support

That's because they all know FLAC is the way to go...BMW, always ahead in technological thinking, just not implementing them.

Thank you Marty for the information,

I have read somewhere about that 250 tracks limitation too, so I'm keen to hear if you can fit 999 tracks to DVD by splitting the tracks to folders or something.

I have been waiting for dension i-link for my ipod (and playing MP3's from CD media meanwhile), but since it seems that they'll never get that to the markets, the idea of having the same amount tracks on 4 dvd's sound the way to go.

Unfortunately I have had to go away on business so I have not had a chance to fully test this - but my intial test disc appeared to work well and I did not notice anything missing. But I only actuallly skiped through it briefly - now I have to wait a week before I can really test it thouroughly by cutting a full DVD.

Even so - if there was a 250 track limit then this would still be pretty cool although 1000 track would be better

I too was waiting for the dension - but after playing with the integrated MP3 I fear that the dension would not be as good as it would work through the CD interface which would be quite clunky for a large number of MP3s. I think that I will wait for the full BMW iPod kit (it that ever comes) but in the meantime DVD MP3 will keep me extremely happy.

Does this mean you can not use navigation when listening to mp3s?

You need to put in the Nav DVD while selecting and calculating the route but you can then take out the DVD and replace with the MP3 disc and navigation will continue without any problem. Also, if it a route that you have taken before, you often not need the navi DVD at all.

Well, I am gobsmacked - as an experiment I cut an MP3 DVD and stuck it into my car, I really expected this not to work but NO...... 4.7Gb of MP3 Magic. Looks like I won't be needing that iPod interface kit after all? ?

My first test was only about 2.8Gb but this seems to work jst fine. I arranged it into folders so that it is navigatable inside the idrive.

The only thing missing is playlists?

Next two things to try :

a) Double sided DVD => 8.5Gb

b) DVD R/W.

? ? 'king-ell? ?

ps - I feel for you CCC guys, hopefully BMW will get their act together and you too will have MP3.

Do you have a DVD navigation unit in your car? Will the DVD-MP3 work in the CD drive?

But I have heard it wont recognize a full 4.7Gigs of songs, only about 3 gigs

Your number of albums is also apparently limited

Do far I had only used CD MP3 which are quite limited.

I was wondering about the limit. When you look at the track listings it only has space to count upto 999. So for aprox 3Mb per song that would equate to about 3G.

however I have broken things up into sub-directories with no directory having more than about 100 songs. So the disc is easier to navigate and I should not hit the 999 limit.

I will try to cut another DVD today with full 4.7G and report back it it works.

I have Bus NAV, after i red this post i burned an MP3 (normal CD and not DVD) put in the single slot CD under the AC and it worked.

However, idrive listed the tracks as normal audio CD (No other details). do you beleive if i burn it on a DVD it show the details of the sonds

You should get all the artist / track info by burning the tracks onto a CD. I put each album in a separate folder. The details displayed do vary from album to album depending on the information in the track tag. I transfer mine from my i- tunes directory which does tend to include lots of details in the tag. I convert the files from m4a format to lame mp3 using Nero extras and then create the mp3 cd by burning it using "create mp3 cd" in Nero.

Hope that helps

Sounds like you cut an audio CD rather than an MP3 cd.

How many tracks did you fit in there? If its more than like 25 that'll answer if its a MP3 or Audio CD.
