Hello everybody,
This is my first time here. Got my 530i three days ago. Great car!!
I have seen in other threads here that no-one(???) has been able to get their cd-player to play mp3 files, even though the manual says it should! But, in the manual it also says that "mp3 files should be generated with Fraunhofer codec for best result"
Anyone tried this codec? Could it really matter which codec is used to encode the mp3?s?

Nope, definately not! IIRC this codec is the most basic standard on which MP3 is based, so any normal MP3 file should work. Just imagine that you should re-encode all of your MP3 files because only a special coded is supported, I do not think that they will get away with this, don't you?

Just remember you will need the Pro radio (optional in Europe, can be ordered separately or is included when ordering the Bus/Pro Nav) and a software update (all rumours indicate that it will become available around September), that's all.

JohanDC,

Thanks for a quick answer. I thought that would be the case... I guess I?ll just have to wait for the update then, like everyone else..

Take care!

No prob, can't sleep anyway, will take delivery of my E60 tomorrow, too excited!!!

Anyway, if you want to play MP3 files really badly you can always install a Kenwood Music Keg with FM Modulator, mine will be installed tomorrow, if you want I can post some pics of it and write a little review of the audio quality. I currently have the same setup without FM modulator in my 330Cic so I guess I will be able to write a fair comparison.

Johan,
Yes, that would be great if you could do that. I really want to be able to play mp3?s in my car. I hate changing cd?s all the time..

Take care and good luck with your new car!
