How come E60 don't have something like this but an E46 does?

You're right. But you may be aware that the hardware and software of these systems is entirely different. So it's down to the technical decisions made as part of the marketing decisions.

I wonder how many e60 sales have been lost because of this "shortfall"?

I doubt any was lost because of this shortfall, since most owners don't find out about this until they actually buy the car. Because as buyers, we'll ask, can this car read MP3s? and the dealer would say, yes, and we're fine. I mean personally, (now I've learned my lesson), I wouldn't ask, does the CD changer play MP3s or the in dash only, i would never think to ask that, so I guess BMW can still sell their cars. Plus most owners are pure happy with driving, but I'm still so so upset that the CD changer won't read MP3. Anymore input?

It's hard to say for sure but I'd be willing to bet that even if you were sharp enough to ask a salesperson if the changer plays MP3 discs, you'd probably get a wrong answer -- especially on the E60 because so many other BMW models do allow them to play from the changer...

The following matrix (from March 2006) shows what cars can play them and from where:

It's called a MOST bus iPod adapter. And it will do one better than that CD changer on the E46, E53, or E39. It will show song and artist titles and play lots more than 4GB worth of music.

You're right, iPod adapter is the answer, there are still some confustion if iPod adapter can be installed on 04 or 05 car.
If asking for CD/MP3 CD changer, I'd go for iPod which is much better.

I understand about the iPod adapter, but I'm just curious why would BMW make MP3 ready CD changers for other models, like the E46 and not our E60. I find that strange, iPod adapter is just another option.

Sorry to say, this is off topic, and you're a bit late about this. domofnavtv is selling these interfaces, and www.euronavi.co.kr is selling these too. Many members have bought their products and are happy about it. but thanks for sharing, if you dont' mind, post a picture of your interface, and pricing, maybe you have an advantage in some areas.

To date, none of the stills I've seen of these interfaces show all aspect ratios being handled correctly.

Oh yeah, just looked above. See what I mean.? What's the POINT?... I know... fill a screen.
