More and more reports from ppl who picked up new E60's which can play MP3's.

But no news on software update for E60's that are allready delivered...

The processor in these units is probably more along the lines of a Pocket PC than a regular PC, so multi-tasking may have limitations.
The processor COULD handle all at a time. That's what's confusing them a little bit.

So do you think it was October production that changed it? Or September?

And perhaps a CIP version earlier than 20 supports it, but only in conjunction with the proper hardware?

Or perhaps BMW is now shipping a 19.2.x...?

I think they are trying some new stuff, but not sure, just guessing here.

19.1 is the latest AFAIK.

not sure, I've noticed many things of this nature or often delayed.

CCC part number has not changed, so unless they changed something else those new cars are running MP3 on the same hardware everyone else has

Just informed that my E60 has arrived in the UK. It will be with the dealer next Tues/Wed. So I should have it next Fri. It may be a week 39, not 40, but I will post if the MP3 works

Response to my dealers enquiry

"Basically, from week 40 production, a car with Professional Navigation specified will be capable of MP3 playback (via the single cd slot only). This customer's car is a week 39 production, but it will have the right components in order for it to work, however, it will need a software upgrade for it to actually function. "

Hmm, that's disappointing. So BMW was right in saying that this started with October production (Week 40). I just got confirmation today that my vehicle is indeed Week 40. But I'm in the US, so it will be like another month before it gets to me. In any case, it looks like it's becoming clearer that Week 40 and newer vehicles will have this enabled.
