If your car does not have engine heat temp readers, how you're supposed to know if your engine is running warm or cold?
I'll try to get a pic up soon - using a gen 1 iPad with no camera.
I just use common sense in terms of owing if its warmed up or not and have to rely on the warning lights for a condition approaching overheating. It sucks that there is no temp gauge readily available. I am also looking to see if the car can be coded to unlock and display the temp sensor reading on demand. I guess the engineers assumed that luxury sedan owners weren't interested in those type of things?

Ok, I took a pic on myiphone and tried to postfrom phone, but it appears you cant just upload a pic, but had to post a URL? Anyway, while looking closer at one and comparing it to yours, it is the same, but your hash marks along the side of the ring go up the dial much further. I have 3 lines, regardless if I let my car sit for 2 days or whether I on a 2 hour road trip. I just verified this yesterday and have been watching it over the past weeks. Mine must be inoperable. I wonder if it is covered under warranty - I will check when I take it in for service in the upcoming weeks.

Don't spend time staring at your tach. In three years I had my 08 535i nothing ever changed, moved or lite up.
As Luigi said, just get in, strap in and go; summer or winter. Why warm up your engine when everything else is stone cold. Drive moderately for a while. I suggest 5 miles.
My F10 has a temp gauge and takes varying times to warm up but does it best when I'm moving rather than sitting in traffic. The A/C is going before I leave the driveway. Waiting for winter to see how the heater works but my retired E60 was pumping heat within a km.
