Changed my runflats for Michelin Pilot Primacy. The trouble is that you don't have anything to compare the RF's to unless or? until you change to non RF's. The Michelins are slightly more comfortable than the OEM Dunlops, the grip is considerably better and I hope to get a great deal more than the? 11,000 miles I got out of the D's.

Looking at the posts worldwide on this subject, I do have my suspicions that the quality control of the Dunlops may be the issue. Some people find them OK, others have had them changed under warranty cos of excessive noise and quite a few have had excessive wear. I guess that's the price we pay for being first in with new technology. Roll on the next generation so that the increased competition will force quality up!

I put the Michelin Primacy's on my 2002 330i, these were the best tires I have ever had on a car. I live in South Florida, the roads are in good shape but because of the hot weather tires do not last that long, these did. I had 25,000 miles on them when I turned the car in. They were quite and quite smooth, and great in the rain. I would buy these again. Good luck

I've now gone through 2 sets of OEM Dunlop Runflats and I notice unusual wear on the rear tires (insides of both rear tires wear faster) However, no road noise. I can't even find the OEM Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST 245/40/18 to buy anywhere except the dealerships and I am not going to pay twice as much for a tire I can find at the Tire Rack for much cheaper. The Dunlop factory has this tire on back order. Maybe they are phasing them out with all the complaints?

I think the run flat's are awful. My previous car was an M3 on 19" wheels and it's low speed ride was better than my 535d Sport on 18" with run flats. The M5 isn't coming with run flat's purely because M are not willing to accept the inferior handling and ride characteristics, in reviews the M5 has been said to be the best riding E60 after the 525 on 16" wheels which is the only other E60 that does not come with run flat's.

Apparently the reson the E90 rides so much better is because it's the first car designed from the outset with run flat's in mind. It's also using a Pirelli tyre that is not being used in the rest of the BMW range as yet and is only available in limited 16 and 17" sizes. According to the head of sales ay my BMW dealer the worst/harshest riding BMW ever is the Z4 on 18" wheels, pretty awful from all accounts.

I'll agree with you on the Z4 as I have that exact combination and the ride is on the ridiculous side of harsh unless you are on a very smooth surface.

I can't agree on the E60 runflats versus the M3 with 19" wheels though. I had an M3 for 6 months and would say that was much firmer than the 5. I'm beginning to think my 530d must be a rogue vehicle as the ride is very smooth and quiet on 18" 124 alloys, sports suspension and still running on the original front tyres that are now close to 21k miles.
