Hi everyone, I just bought a 2008 550i 6 speed M-Sport and I was poking around in the trunk area and saw that there were a few modules not secured to the body in any way. They were still wired up and there aren't any error lights or anything but I can tell that it's been tampered with. The aux input in the IDrive screen is grayed out and the USB port in the console doesn't work. I read that the MULF2 module is related and I checked all the fuses and nothing fixed it. I guess my main question is where these modules are supposed to be attached.
Thanks in advance.
It does look like some of the connector wiring has been repaired (the shrink tube plus 2 different colours on each side) but as long as everything works then it looks like it was done right.
Are there 2 coax cables plugged into the other side of the Mulf2(silver box)? Hard to see in the pic as thats where the USB cable would plug into.
Also these are generally under the spare tire but I bet the PO moved them as it likely flooded (sunroof drain) and some may have been replaced
No, it appears that there's something missing. There's the blue connector, the black one with green wires, and these 2 on the opposite side. I also looked and there was nothing under the spare.
The Green wire connector is the Fiber optic, wire harness connector is obvious, the black is the USB cable and the tan is for Bluetooth (If you still have blue tooth it may be routed to the TCU if you have that)
Run your Vin and see if you have 6FL (USB ) as a factory option. It could be that the PO retrofitted it or its also possible he replaced the module and didn't code it properly for your options
So I figured out where all the loose modules are supposed to go. The MULF2 actually goes down in the foam under the spare tire. I couldn't find any obvious bad connections anywhere and the aux and USB still don't work. I read that the hub could be bad, causing this to happen. My USB hub has a missing connection, are there supposed to be all 4 in use?
Yes all of those modules come under the spare tire, PO likely moved it because they can get flooded (bad drains etc) and ruin the modules if you don't keep an eye on it
The Blue connection for the USB hub is the "6NF' option which is the smartphone connection block in the glovebox (Iphone baseplate). That is separate from the 6FL USB connection.
I would look into coding first and make sure all modules are coded right as to why they don't work
