Injection for Force Injection.

I mean Fuel... not Force.

Obviously too young to remember when cars were supplied with fuel via a carburettor. The 'i' was used to designate those which used fuel injection instead.

It has also become BMW-speak for "petrol" (after all, Diesel models are fuel injected too!)

I = Ignition, not injection. It was used prior to the days of injection. It was used to differentiate between diesel which = D

Injection. Non-injection petrol BMWs don't have any model suffixes (e.g. 518, 520).
