After taking US Delivery of my new LCI 550 Sport I went to load my CD's in the 6 CD Changer that was part of Logic 7. Much to my surprise I discovered that CD changer was no longer part of Logic 7. I was told that the I-Pod and Adapter is taking the place of the CD Changer. What a surprise this is! First of all on my 08 550 the new inferior Logic 7 does not include the CD changer yet it is the same price. Plus now we are expected to get the I-Pod option for $450 +/- to replace the missing CD-Changer.

Audio Quality Objectively it is fair to say that the new Logic 7 is slightly inferior to the old Logic 7. Furthermore the audio quality out of an I-Pod, while very convenient, is inferior to the audio quality of the CD Changer.

In summary we are now paying 40% more to get less audio quality plus CD Changer has been deleted, although we get the convenience of the I-Pod. What a bunch of bullsh1t! One more reason to give an Audi A7 in 2010 a good look.

I am pretty sure the Logic 7 used to cost $1,800 when it included the CD changer and then dropped to $1,200 when they separated the two. Also in 07, you could at least order the CD changer stock (for $595 or $695 I think), now you are correct, I do not see it at all on the configurator.

Since for 2004/05/06/07 you used the CD Changer Connection for iPod connectivity, but for 08 it is in the center console, I wonder if you can now have the CD changer and iPOD (the new one) adapter together? Anyway, I'm sure there are a ton of people who will sell you their CD changers because they have replaced them with iPOD adapters....

Exactly! the new L7 does not cost $1800. I would have totally opted out of the CD changer if I could and just get the L7 for $1200. but stupid BMW packaged them together and forced me into the CD changer.

So sorry pharding you cant complain about the missing CD changer... but yes you can complain about the low quality L7. I would love to swap the CD changer for the USB adapter... nope not the "iPod" thing that uses the CD changer connections but the LCI USB adapter.

I believe that this is correct. The pricing was adjusted 1/3 downward when the changer was (mercifully) eliminated.

Paul, I was fully aware of CD changer omission and lower L7 price when I re-ordered. I do not miss it with the IPod. BUT the inferior sound quality is unforgivable.

What are the big differences in the MY08 L7 as compared to the previous verions of the L7? Has the sound quality diminished considerably?

I agree with the others...........lower audio quality for L7------->BAD................................no CD Changer for $600 less------>GOOD.

I hope they remove the CD Changer from the Premium Audio package of the E70 X5 as well. We are considering getting an E70 for my wife and I would definately not get the premium sound if it is bundled w/ CD Canger, but if they make it cheaper by removing the CD Changer I will consider it.

The apparent problem with the new logic7 must have something to do with the door redesign. BMW has to be using different speakers which do have a the same sound characteristics as the previous incarnation. The speaker shapes, for instance, appear to be quite different. This has resulted in changed sound ambiance as well as lessening the quality of the mid and upper sound range. I would venture a guess that the low end remains exactly the same. Possibly playing around with the graphic equalizer might help to smooth out the sound of the system.

Are you talking about the speaker grille shapes or the actual speaker? I'm assuming that behind the grille, they're both the same shape -- round...
