Any one running STANDARD Michelin Ps2S or Conti sport contact 2s on 18 inch wheels - replacing the Run flat tyres????
Which do you prefer???

I love the new tires and highly recommend them to anyone considering making the switch to non run flats. The Pole Positions are peformance touring tires, meaning they drive very quietly and comfortably, last a long time, but can also perform very well in agressive driving. They do very well in wet weather as well. I have had them now for 13,000 miles and have had no issues at all. A little pricy, but still well below the price of run flats.
Check them out at tirerack.com

I changed the standard Bridgestone RE050A 245/40/18RF to Falken FK452's of same size based on user reports and tests of the 452's.
The 452's are as good in performance terms (wet and dry) as the Bridgestones but are quieter and obviously do not have the harshness of the RFT's on ordinary roads. You will notice some sacrifice in steering dierctness and high speed cornering stability (due to the reinforced side walls on the RFTs) when you go conventional but the improvements in other areas are worth it IMO.
PS: I had two nails in one of the 452's and I did not even notice for a while. I had it repaired for $25 - if I still had the RFT's it would have cost me $580 to replace one tyre (but probably would have needed two).

Run, do not walk to get a set of PS2's. I just had a set put on my '05 545i w/ 18" rims today and they replaced the horrific Dunlop thump flats. The difference is awe inspiring and had the same impact on me as the first time I drove my car. They are expensive, I got a sweet deal through my auto broker, but worth every penny!!!

I used to run Sumitomo HTR Z II tires on my old car. I had run Pilot Sports, Toyo Proxes, etc... and really - they are at least 90%+ what those tires were, but they're super cheap.

I see that now they have an HTR Z III, which looks a lot like the OEM tires on our cars... and it beat out a lot of other tires in TireRack's own testing. They have a track and test mules (E90s) that they run tires through.

$115 a tire for 245/40ZR18 97Y...

Reading and writing some on this Forum, plus reading a lot of different tire tests of various magazines,
plus talking with local BMW drivers and lovers;
The best tire for a E60 with 18" or 19" rims is the non-RF Michelin PS2!
They are not the best choice for wet roads and they are a bit expensive.
