i'll purchase 4 A/S instead of snows for now since i have 4x4 drive in my silverado. heres the link to my thread post. my thoughts were leaning toward the "ultra high performance" tires to cut down on noise and still provide winter traction. i know from some internet posts and comments made that some of the michelin models are more well suited to icy conditions [but not all] and the blizzaks although have a good reputation for snow bite seem to be on the noisey side, but with better affordability.

Op, If you get a lot of snow where you live, I say the Blizzaks or even the Dunlops Winter Sport. The Michelin's are good, but I think their characteristic are more geared for performance winter driving in the dry than on snowy roads with heavy accumulation. Don't get me wrong they are good in the snow, but not great. I'm currently running the Michelin Alpin now, and they are amazing in the dry with no noise associated with snow tires. They almost feel like they are not winter tires until you get spirited into the triple digits I can still exit a ramp at a decent speed with the confidence of a summer tire. However, with the unexpected October New York snowstorm, I had to turn off my traction control, and spin my wheels in order to get up the driveway. The driveway had maybe about 2-3 inches of fresh powder. My previous experience with both the Blizzaks and Dunlops, I never had traction issues going up the driveway. Both the Blizzaks and the Dunlops felt and sounded like winter tires on dry roads which is the trade off...

I agree with Bayerische Motoren-Werke, if you get lots of snow and cold weather like up here in Canada, don't get a performance winter tire (ie. alpins). I currently have the pirelli wintersport 210 and that was a mistake. The performance winter tires have a harder rubber compound for high speeds but this harder rubber does not do well on ice. I personally will be going back to the dunlops for my next set.
