I wonder if it has anything to do with the success of the new 335i sedan and coupe. Given a choice, with that kind of horsepower, I would opt for the coupe, others the sedan.

The auto industry and BMW had an interesting Q1. Total U.S. vehicle sales were off 1% while BMW brand U.S. sales were up 6.7% - led by big increases in sales of the 3er (+19%), Z4 (+91%), X5 (+26%), and X3 (+10%). The 5/6/7 series are sliding (-22%).
Q1 U.S. sales among E60 competitors:
BMW E60 11,127 units (-23% compared to Q1 2006)
MB E-Class 10,447 (+18% - that facelift is selling well)
Infiniti M 6,265 (-6%)
Lexus GS 5,217 (-22%)
Audi A6 2,832 (-38%)
It will be interesting to see how E60 sales go over the next quarter as the LCI starts to be delivered.
In the luxo-boat segment the new Lexus is killing 'em:
Lexus LS 8,563 units (+135%)
MB S-Class 6.646 (-15%)
BMW 7er 3,472 (-30%)
Audi A8 932 (-34%)
Other notable sales figures:
Porsche 911 3,371 units (+16%)
Porsche Cayman 1,406 (-34%)
MB CLS 2,043 (-28%)
In the eco-battle against global warming and for higher gasoline mileage, the results are mixed. Compact cars of all types are selling great (+10%), but large SUVs and cross-overs are selling great too (+12%). It's the stuff in the middle that's loosing ground. Go figure.
