BMW with auto is still much more sporty than MB.
BMW auto transmission is not reliable though. Leaking fluid is very common.
Resale is not an issue. 5 series is the only luxury mid size sedan with manual transmission and those people who wants manual usually have to get manual.

Contrarian opinion here.
I listed my 2001 530i/MT car for sale on Christmas week, probably the hardest week of the year to sell a 5 year old used car. I had my buyer in one day, and over the ensuing 2 months, I had quite a few calls inquiring about the car (after it was sold to that buyer of course).
True, the market for these cars is thin and you can't trade it to a dealer, but your car will be rare, and those few buyers out there won't have many other cars to choose from.
If you lease a car, this whole thing does not become an issue. If you buy it, just get what you really want and don't worry about selling it. You'll find your buyer when the day comes.

Of course, someone getting an E60 should get the trans that they desire. The whole point of an E60 is driving pleasure anyway.

I'd go for MT. I searched a very long time before I purchased mine for the simple reason that they flew off the lot any time one was listed for sale.
There are so few 4 door sedans in the marketplace with MT available making it a very rare car. Infiniti G35/37 is the only sedan with MT available.

mt ftw!! More fun, more control, mo better! there is a learning curve and in traffic it can be bothersome, but I wouldn't have it any other way....except maybe a double clutch SMG.

Actually i'm going to purchase BMW 530i E60 and i'd like to hear for your suggestions regarding Gearbox on this model!! So here is my question:
Which one would you recommend ? Manual Gearbox or Automatic Transmission ?

Just one point to consider if you are buying pre-owned, manual models can easily be thrashed by hard drivers.

I wouldn't have anything but a Manual.....I mean why have such a nice engine, and turn the control of it over to a computer. Sure, maybe the computer can shift it faster, and you could get around a track faster...blah, blah....but who cares. I want to be able to have full control over and feel that sweet engine! Give a manual or take it back!

Great responses guys...Thanks alot!
Well, the thing is that i've never had a car with Automatic transmission.
I just had one car - 1994 BMW 520i executive with Manual Gearbox. It was great car indeed. I sold it around 6 month ago , and now trying to buy E60 530i . I really love BMW!
So guys , now you know that i've never experienced with Automatic Transmission. Friend's of mine suggest me to get with AT because when i would to sell it it would be easy than with MT! Who knows!
In other side , if the AT will break then - bye bye , need to spend then more money to change it to the new one.
I'm often will drive on the city but love to go to the village as well but rare. So say i would be out of city twice per year!
That's it![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
