If you don't follow trucks too closely, paint chips are not a problem. I drive on highway every day, and don't have any chips.

Come to South Florida these trucks are everywhere and they drop their sand and stones on the road. It's not about driving close.

I don't follow trucks too close, but passing them on the freeway still results in stones. Also, in CA we have a bunch of idiots talking on thier cell phones in the left lane, sometimes you just have to ride thier a$#!

The paint is pretty hard, the problem is the sloping hood. I had three chips after 4k miles, so I had to suck it up and install the 3M film. I feel alot more comfortable when I am on the road and really don't notice it.

You guys hit alot of good points.

One thing I would like to see is the ability to select/set the startup screen of the I-drive. 95% of the time when I get it, I want it to go to the radio/CD screen I had it on when I turned off the car. I understand the warning message, but it is a little annoying to do three key presses everytime I fire up the car.

If you could sit in a meeting with the BMW design team what changes or additions whould you make to the E60?
I would add the option of full leather in the cabin (as in the M5) or at least extend the leather as standard or option to the 5 (center consol). My Z4 and previous 330 had leather on the center arm rest at the consol.

Refresh the rear break lights to include the 'neon' of the new 7, 3, Z4, X5 and X3.

Redesign the center rear head rest (cup holders when placed down and opened as part of the center arm rest). Blocks review and looks out of place with the rest of the interior of the cabin.

Finally, bring to the US the "Indivdual' options that the European models offer. THis would great expand the color, leather and wood trim options here in the states. I saw one 5 series in London at a dealer last month that I can not get here in the states.

Besides the above, the car is perfect. Keep up the great work! About to place an order for a fully loaded 550 for pick up in Feb or March of next year.

Thanks!

Comfortable seats ( as standard! )
Design rain channel, to stop water being dumped on back seats when rear doors opened.
Remove un-necessary electronics & gadgets. I'd prefer a quality car which will last, not a PC on wheels which will be a relic in a few years!

I would move the fog lamp switches. I can't see them for the steering wheel and end up fumbling in the dark ! Rubber straps in the boot (trunk) like my E39 had and a hard plastic side pocket which was great for bottles. A full sized spare.

I would suggest they: -

Offer a non M5 version suspension pack with all the different settings.
Make the interiors less drab i.e. more two tone standard colours.
More storage up front.
LED heater/air con
Rhd wipers on rhd models.
Clearer angel eyes like on previous E39 and other BMW models.
Get rid of the boot/trunk lid shutline that makes the boot/trunk look like its stuck on separately.
Better cupholders.
Make all options standard.

Only 2 things - 1 of which I think has been addressed with MY07:
1) Better Steering wheel (Anthracite covered would be nicer)
2) 400+ HP hybrid motor available as option and compliant for carpool lanes.
