I have a 2008 535xi and my maintenance coverage is over on October 1st. The dealer of course is recomending I buy another 2 years for $2200 and thats with a $100s off. The car has 37000 miles now - My question to you is - Is it worth it? are there any major things that come up in the next 2 years? 50000 mile service - 70000 mile service? or am I over paying for 10000 mile oil changes and brakes that I want to change to cross drilled anyway? Thanks

Don't bother its not worth it in my opinion.
Hindsight is 20/20. If I would've known how shitty the OEM brakes were I wouldn't have bothered. For some reason I thought the E60 required lots of expensive maintenance and it seemed like a good deal at the time for some peace of mind.
Nowadays I just do the brakes myself and go after market.
For oil changes I take it to an indy at 7500 miles and when its due for the scheduled 15k oil change I'll take it to the dealer.
The plan pretty much just covers oil changes, brakes (which are crappy/dusty), wiper fluid top off and wipers.
I will NEVER get the plan again. Live and learn.

I went in again last month I now have 40k miles and they replaced my brakes for me. They did a early oil change and will do a full checkup and replace what is needed when my plan ends which is in August. They offered the plan again this time for $2500. LOL.
I got a Acura TL recently as my DD so I am driving the E60 only once a week so I am not interested in paying $2500. The only worthwhile item from that plan was the brakes and I had them replaced already. I have 2 more years of warranty and after that I will be taking it to a indy. I hope to keep the E60 for 200k+.
No major service should happen. If you have a warranty your golden. Don't waste $2k.

I think it's worth it for an average person who wants BMW to do the brakes, wipers, oils, filters, loose rubber, cleaning and other regular stuff . I bought it last year and it saves a big chunk of money.
You are probably best off in making the decision for yourself.

The only way you get ahead or breakeven with the extended plan is if you get to the 100k mile mark before the warranty expires. Otherwise, your best bet is going to a reputable indy shop or DIY.

The way I look at it is a gamble, you could drive the car for another 5 years and have nothing malfunction at all. Then again 6 months after your warranty expires if your tranny or engine screws up you are pretty much SOL. Then again what are the chances right?
My only advice is if anyone drives a 535i the extended warranty is almost a must. If a turbo goes out which is bound to happen, you are royally f'd.

What does maintenance only program covers anyway? If it just for regular oil change, brakes and other maintenance jobs, then it's not worth it. If by chance suddenly you get a leak on your transmission pan or your rod bushings are torn and they fix it for you, then it's worth it for peace of mind.
