My Ride: 2004 545i - 6 speed manual (July 04 build), silver-grey/black, sports package std equipment (18", active roll, active steering, adaptive headlights), premium sound, bluetooth enabled, folding rear seat, lumbar, 3m hood/bumper protective film, rear tint, euro reflectors.
I just past 50k and I am not seeing much maintenance required (except oil and brakes) until the 75k vehicle check. Alignments I take care of when I change tires.
Any recommendations for coolant change or manual transmission fluid? The dealer did not seem to think I had to do a manual transmission service until 100k or more.

Dealer is telling me we have lifetime coolant, that a coolant change is never needed. I never heard of such. What say you?

A number of manufacturers are claiming "lifetime" coolants these days - I remember reading a discussion about it on audiworld a while back. The manufacturer, however, isn't going to help you much if something goes wrong past warranty, so I'm with jes. I'll be flushing it every two to three years. Even at BMW prices, coolant isn't *that* expensive...I think I just paid about $20 at a notoriously overpriced dealer for a gallon a couple months ago for my e30.

Well BMW never had any Lifetime Fluids until BMW started picking up the tab for the maintenance. I know that the fluids have gotten better over the years but I say that some of the schedules are a bit long. I would stick to the classic BMW maintenance schedule from the past. If you are going to keep the car then I would not follow the new guidelines. Almost every person who questions this in Rondel or Bimmer mag gets the same answers from the independent BMW techs.

At my previous Vehicle check at 60k km, my dealer only checked the seats belts, tire pressure, lights, oil level and so on... If the 75k miles check is the same, I will do it myself.

If you check the i-drive under "service" you will see that a coolant change is recommended and how much time/miles to the next change.

I have the following items in my iDrive:
-Oilservice
-Front brakepads
-Rear brakepads
-Microfilter
-Vehicle check
-Inspection (I can set the date myself, state inspection)
-Exhaust inspection (I can set the date myself, state inspection).
The coolant and the gearbox is life time oil. I'm considering getting them changed at 100k miles (160k km's).. Oil is cheaper than new parts..
