So, following advice from this forum's posts, I changed my old battery to a new one with the same spec oem bmw battery bought from the dealer. Had the battery registered at an indy bmw shop here in the OC (they were nice enough to do it for free and cleared any faults in the idrive - took like 5 min job). New battery was also put on a battery tender plus overnight to fully charged - the eye shows a good green color.

But that doesn't solve a maddening issue I have - the clock, trip odometer keeps resetting every time the car sleeps for more than 1 hrs. My date would stay the same the last time I locked the car (it would not advance). Also, my Comfort Access would not work when this happens. I would need to use the remote to unlock the car in the morning, then CA will work again as normal.

I could start the bimmer w/o any message concerning 'high/increase' battery discharge.

I checked some of the fuses making sure I didn't blow any while installing the new battery. Visually, the fuse for instrument cluster and Comfort Access (#18) looks good but I replaced it with a new one just in case. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem.

Any ideas!?

Sounds like something is draining the battery or your Intelligent Battery Sensor is shot.
