M54b30 conversion
Hi All
After consider the high cost to upgrade my existing m5425 for 10-15 hp, I change my plan to swap the Complete engine & head from M54b30 due to special price from my friend. Hope I can get advice or input on this conversion. Both are from same version (J-spec) Regards Omar |
Omar,
Sharing your car's model and year may be helpful in getting more responses, but i will assume you have an e60 5 series given this threads location. I fully understand you desire for an m54b30, it is a fantastic and reliable engine, i absolutely loved my 04 330xi! To my knowledge the M54b30 never came in an E60. If i am correct it, will be very difficult, as the wring harness/software may not even exist to do such a conversion. You may also consider your objectives, the 5 series is very heavy compared to 3 series, and will never be as quick and fun as a 3. If this is your goal maybe sell it and buy a sportier car. Either way, good luck! |

Check out one of the E36 forums. It's been done multiple times there. We actually did one with my son's 1996 328i a few years back. We did go with Ford 24 lb. injectors and got a custom tune. I'm guessing it puts out around 240-250hp and actually displaced around 3.1 liters. We used a M54B30 crank (330i),S50 cams an E46 330i pistons and rods as the base starting point for the block.
With your car it should be easier as you could get it from the factory via a 530i for a couple years. Check out realoem.com and compare your car with a 330i or530i. That would be a good starting point on what it will take. An alternative would be to drop in a used motor too. Good luck |
