Default M5 brakes- painted

Hi Guys,
I came across M5 brakes recently, and it was too good of a deal to pass up. At first, I was thinking of powder coating them red. The estimates I got were all around $400-$500. So, after some research on other forums, I decided to paint them myself.

I started with the front. I took them apart and cleaned the hell out of them- took forever. Then, I used duplicolor primer, caliper paint, and clear- all sprayed on. I put around 4-5 light/medium coats of each. I let the pieces cure for 7 days. The paint seems pretty hard now, and real glossy. I also put on some vinyl M stickers and cleared over them.

Here's a couple pics of one of the front calipers.

Good paint job. I've been looking for a set of M5 brakes. Be warned you might get some negative comments on the emblem.

came out nice, but wait until you have to put that clip in, hopefully it doesnt scrape away any paint. wow 500 for PC? ive seen quotes for full set of wheels for half of that price.

I'll definetly post some pics after the install. Ive read many DIY's from several different forums- lets see how it goes. Ive already removed both rotor retaining bolts on the front rotors, just to see if they would come off. After having this car for 7 years, that bolt was rusted pretty bad- I was surprised that they each came off with little force.

Inserting the retaining spring will be tricky without scratching it.

Great job. I've used Duplicolor Engine Enamel on several projects. Rotors and calipers. And also use on guns. I find it better than duracoat! After dry to touch you can stick in the over 275 degrees for 3 hours. Great stuff.

LOL, yes expect the cult members to criticize the emblem. BUT they are M calipers so they've technically earned that sticker!

when putting the retaining clip back in, put some lube on it like a glob of vaseline or grease when you insert it and fix it just tap it with a rubber mallet and it will slide in place without issues. Then wipe off excess lube.
